You may think everything can be calculated and there must be a formular for solving. That may be right for not complex problems and not for real application. In this real world, there are many things that only calculation is not enough to understand and believe on. Experiments and many tests, again and again, just to make sure what have been calculated and estimated, just to find many required coefficients to build up a so call experimental formulas. And with the help of computer science, some simulators may be required just to encourage ourselves to continue.
In this small issue, I just want to consider that, there may be sometime you want to find a formular to calculate somethings, but there is no such formular. This case, you have to think another way, think differently. That is to say, you have to turn back to experimental world.
Just an example, you may want to calculate the thrust of a propeller. You want a formular that may give you an exact answer. There will not be ! Why ? There are many conditions and coefficients are required to solve this problem. Just image, you will see. That why application engineers have to build models and have to test many many times, to measure many many data ... just to make sure that it will work correctly.
